My report this month I will focus on my attendance at the 2017 NAR REALTORS® Legislative Meetings & Trade Expo in Washington. Nearly 10,000 REALTORS® and others attended the meetings and made visits to their members of Congress to advocate on behalf of homeowners, commercial property investors, and strong communities.
On Monday and Tuesday, I was in classes to become certified to teach REBAC® class using the license that FAOR now holds. This will allow our Association the ability to host and teach NAR approved designation classes.
We had a full day on Wednesday beginning with the NAR Federal Issues Briefing at 7 a.m. This allows our government affairs staff to bring the members information on our positions on proposed Federal laws.
115th Congress First Session Goals that impact REALTORS
The Ohio Senate needs to hear from Ohio’s REALTORS that Gov. John Kasich’s plan to use the Ohio Business Gateway as a centralized collection entity is a smart approach to creating a tax payer-friendly environment. Senators are considering a plan that gives small business owners – the opportunity to meet our tax obligations in a simple, streamlined manner.
This proposal is facing strong opposition from cities all across Ohio and our legislators need to hear from the membership that this change is important and worth the fight. Your Association has been actively lobbying this issue and are being told the same thing in every meeting — legislators need to hear from their constituents that this is important to them.
